Straight answers

The questions transfusion services ask us, with straight answers.

Another device for my staff to manage?
Staff scan the unit with a phone at each hand-off. The technologist reads the record at their station.
Does it fit the regulation?
It builds on what the Blood Regulations already allow: showing transport conditions with a data logger (s. 76 and s. 101).
Will it cut our wastage?
We have no measured figure yet. We will publish the numbers from our first pilot site, not a projection.
Does it replace our fridge monitoring?
No. Your fridges keep their monitoring. Hematag covers the unit once it leaves them.
Temperature loggers for blood bags already exist. What does Hematag add?
The unit's trail next to its curve: where it went, who took it and for how long.
Are you alone in this market?
No. Passive indicators are sold in Canada: unit-bound, but with no history and no software. Container loggers watch the box, not the bag. A per-unit recording label with software and local support is what we did not find here.
Will wastage disappear?
Not yet. We have no measured salvage rate to show you. We will publish measured numbers from our first pilot site, not a projection.
Is it available today?
No. Hematag is in development and we are looking for pilot sites. How the tag attaches to a bag also has to be cleared first: Canadian Blood Services accepts only approved adhesives on blood bags.
